This week Isabella and I have been exploring colors. We started out by going to the library and getting a few books on colors.
Colors By Charley Harper
This book has pretty illustrations to go along with each color. The text of the book is short and sweet which for us, right now, is good because Isabella’s attention span is not very long. She really enjoyed looking at the pictures
Little Quack Loves Colors by Lauren Thompson
This book follows a little duck and its friend exploring their environment. Each page has the little ducks experiencing the world of color by exploring nature. This is a fun little book with cute illustrations.
My First Colors by DK Publishing
This is Isabella’s kind of book right now. She loves books with big pictures of everyday things. She has just started to talk and she loves going through and pointing at pictures and labeling them. Each page of this book has a color and corresponding items that are of that color.
I decided to pick one color in which we would focus on this week. I decided this week we would do green. All week I have pointed out items that are green both at home and when we are out and about.
For this activity you need:
-Household items from the chosen color group
We started off by putting a piece of green construction paper in the bottom of our container.
We then set off around the house looking for items that were green
Once we were through and gathered our items, we sat down and went through the findings
Her first item of business? To take a bite of the apple
Then to taste the letter I
She then tested this out on her head. A hat maybe?
This was so easy to put together and was something new and interesting to do around the house. If your child is bored and you need to come up with a quick and easy idea, this would be a great one! Send older kids on more extravagant hunts by looking for items from multiple color groups.
