Music is a favorite in our home so I thought, what could be more fun than making an musical instrument at home? This is a tutorial on how to make a homemade drum using an empty oatmeal container. Make sure to enlist your child’s help to make a custom drum that they could be proud of. This is a fun and easy craft to make with kids.
For this activity you will need:
- Empty rolled or “old fashioned” oats container
- Construction paper
- Glue
This activity:
- Promotes auditory and sensory stimulation
- Teaches rhythm
- Fosters hand and eye coordination
- Explores creativity
First I had my daughter color and decorate the construction paper(I used 2 pieces).
Then I used a glue stick and glued the papers around the container.
I added some red trim.
Then I hot glued the lid on
Grab your drum sticks. I used metal spoons but you could use just about anything- wooden spoons, hands, etc.
Beat away!
Have you ever made a homemade instrument?
