Sand Play

Playing outdoors is so much fun for children (and adults) and provides so many learning opportunities as well. With it being summer there really is no better time to get out and enjoy the outdoors with your children. One of the best types of play for children is sand play. It offers a rich sensory experience with so many opportunities to learn. So head to a sandbox, sand table, or the beach and get playing!

Sand play

  • improves fine motor skills and hand and eye coordination
  • Teaches problem solving, conceptual understanding, cause and effect, comparison and observation
  • Builds curiosity and imagination
  • Social skills

We don’t have an ocean here but we took Isabella to the lake and she had a blast playing in the sand.

This stood for about 2.5 seconds before she demolished it.

If you do not have access to a sand box, sand table, or the beach you could make a sand bin. Just take a plastic bin and fill it with sand you can buy from the store. It is a cheap alternative to a sand table or box.
